Research Around the World

Early Childhood Australia:

What are some of the current international research topics?

What surprising facts/insights/new ideas about early childhood did you gain from exploring this international early childhood website?

I loved exploring this website.  I am always looking for sites that offer quality information about early childhood issues and this does just that.  As I scrolled through the numerous articles I was shocked by how many there were and that these articles were not just about Australia, but focused on issues around the world.  The website is easy to navigate and that was also very helpful.  Some of the links that you will find are: Early Childhood News, Every child magazine, Australasian Journal of Early Childhood, and Research in Practice series.  I have only listed a few of the wonderful resources that you will find on this site.

What other noteworthy information did you find on this website?  I had no idea that this organization existed and I learned more about their history and their visions.
Early Childhood Australia is the peak early childhood advocacy organization, acting in the interests of young children, their families and those in the early childhood field.
OUR VISION: Every young child is thriving and learning

'Our role in achieving this vision is to be an effective advocate for young children and a champion for quality outcomes in early childhood education and care'

  1. I really enjoyed reading your post about early childhood education in Australia. I chose Africa to read about, and there were a lot of different things in that country. I read about how social media is being talked about even as early as kindergarten. I do not believe that children in this country learn about that at such an early age. Was there any new information that you learned from the article? Was there anything that shocked you?

  2. I also expressed an interest in this website. There is so much to learn about early childhood from this website. I have always had an interest in the Australia's early childhood program because I believe they invest in their children through the medium of research. They not only carry out research but they actually put into action so as to create a better system for our children. When I how is done in Australia to Jamaica where little is done in terms of research I see clear distinction between the two countries in terms of early childhood development. Although Jamaica has a few positives about the early childhood system, Australia far exceeds us in terms of research. Many persons may say that Jamaica is third world and would not have the resources to carry out research but again I believe it was is priority for our country.

  3. o Rethinking the professional development, this topic is close to heart for me. I spend summers traveling and helping to teach other teachers how to be better teachers. The US is raising its standards for teachers within the early childhood programs, and I strongly agree with it! My problem with many teachers and/or teachers aides is that when professional development days are available, they are more turned off that they want time in their classroom to do report cards, etc. instead of focusing on how to better themselves for their students. How can we resolve this?
