Teaching for Change
Provides
teachers and parents with the tools to create schools where students learn to
read, write and change the world.
Teaching for
Change operates from the belief that schools can provide students the skills,
knowledge and inspiration to be citizens and architects of a better world — or
they can fortify the status quo. By drawing direct connections to real world
issues, Teaching for Change encourages teachers and students to question and
re-think the world inside and outside their classrooms, build a more equitable,
multicultural society, and become active global citizens.
This
organization has been an wonderful tool for me in my quest to become an
anti-bias educator. I have used many of
its resources and also shared them with others.
I will be adding them to my COP this week.

National Association
for Multicultural Education
I
have recently discovered this organization. NAME is a non-profit organization
that advances and advocates for equity and social justice through multicultural
education. The Founders of NAME envisioned an organization that
would bring together individuals and groups with an interest in multicultural
education from all levels of education, different academic disciplines and from
diverse educational institutions and occupations.
Objectives:
•
To provide opportunities for learning in order to advance multicultural
education, equity and social justice.
•
To proactively reframe public debate and impact current and emerging policies
in ways that advance social, political, economic and educational equity through
advocacy, position papers, policy statements and other strategies.
•
To provide the preeminent digital clearinghouse of resources about educational
equity and social justice.
I
am so excited about the work this organization is doing. I al interested in becoming a member of NAME,
and I learned that they have over 2000 members, and is a100% volunteer driven
organization.

Keli,
ReplyDeleteI have always thought that it would be great to work at a college. I wish I had more time to invest into my work now! I feel that this would be a great place for you to work. The opportunities are endless we just have to go out there and get them. I just have this fear of moving out of my comfort zone! I don't want to move away or have to drive a long ways away. I live in a very small town which means I have to gain a backbone and go out of my comfort zone to do something with my life.
Keli, your resources are all very interesting. I have added them to my list for future reference! In particular, I was not familiar with Teaching for Change, thank you for sharing this information.
