Personal Childhood Web

My childhood web shows the people that loved and supported me as a child.

My mother is the sweetest person I know.  She has been my support system my entire life. I remember the first time I sang in front of people that weren't family. I was so nervous. My mother told me to sing to her and everything would be fine.  Anytime I perform, if my mother is there I can always find her and I am instantly calmed. I LOVE my Mama! I would not be the woman I am today if it weren't for her.

My father and I have become really good friends. We are a lot alike and that hasn't always been good.
When I was a child I used to think my father was super tough. He wanted all of his children to do well and so he pushed us hard.  I used to call him the homework monster because we never had a day off from school work. As I progressed into adulthood, I began to really appreciate my dad.  I am excited about the relationship we have and I married a man just like him.

I loved spending time with my grandmothers.  They were both diva's and had no problems speaking their minds.  My grandma Rubye and I spent a lot of time together when I was a child.  I never had any doubt that she loved me because she told it to me every time I saw her.  She used to tell me stories of her childhood and we would laugh until we cried.  She passed away in 2009 and I miss her to this day.  My other grandmother liked for us to call her granny.  Granny loves her hats!  She has hats to go with every outfit.  I remember playing dress up in her clothes and putting on concerts in front of her mirror.  My granny and I have a special relationship.  She doesn't sugar coat anything and I always know when I talk to her about something, she will give it to me straight.

My aunt Polly is like a second mother to me.  She waited to have children and for a long time I had her all to myself.  My aunt is one of my biggest supporters.  When I was a child I spent most of my weekends with her.  The first time I ever got my face painted I was with my aunt.  She had taken me to a carnival and I was so excited to go.  I still remember that day like it was yesterday.  I am very lucky to have her as my aunt.

  1. Hi Keli,
I enjoyed reading about your childhood web. You are very lucky to have had such great support growing up (even if you didn't know it ;)). Thinking back on these relationships is a good way to see how we became the way we did.

  2. Hi Kelli,

I loved the pictures of your grandmothers. Reminded me of the Baptist churches here in NY and down in North Carolina. My grandparents used to make us go to church every sunday in North Carolina. After that we would come home to a ten course meal and the Reverend would stop by and eat dinner with us. What memories! I do miss those gatherings.

  3. Keli, I loved reading about your family relationships and seeing the pictures of your family members. Your words about the way your mother supported you were so sweet. The attachment you formed with your mom early on is part of who you are today. Thank you for sharing the web of strong relationships that nurtured you in childhood.

  4. I love the pictures! I wish I had the capability to post pictures, but my main computer is down and I am stuck with the laptop for now. My aunt was the same way. I was like her child for a while. She waited to have children so I was the one that she spoiled. I remember how upset my mother would get when she would bring me a big bag of cheese puffs all the time. I really enjoyed this assignment. I was able to go back and think about my childhood and there were a lot of good memories I could relive.
