Exploring Roles in the ECE Community: Local and State Levels

Established in 2003, Voices for Georgia’s Children is a nonprofit child policy and advocacy organization that envisions a Georgia where children are safe, healthy, educated, employable, and connected to their family and community. Our mission is to be a powerful, unifying voice for a public agenda that ensures the well-being of all of Georgia’s children.
I was immediately drawn to the name of this dynamic organization.  I am a strong believer that we (adults) are the voices for children when they are too young, too fragile to fend for themselves. I did not find any job openings, but discovered found advocacy opportunities under the take action tab.  I learned that they have weekly meetings at the capital and I plan attending the next one this coming Tuesday.
NYAP is an energetic instrument of compassion and change in the lives of children, youth, and families and the systems, structures and practices that affect them.
NYAP is universally recognized as the premier provider known for trailblazing creative and effective community based solutions to meet the unique needs of the communities they serve and the individual needs of the youth and families involved in our programs.
There is a section on the homepage titled employment opportunities.  There is not a job listing available, but a link to apply online.

The City of Refuge is a non-profit organization dedicated to community development efforts that lead to the stability and sustainability of the local community. The mission of City of Refuge is to bring light, hope and transformation to Atlanta’s last, lost and least. This may sound like an impossible task. But spend a day walking our streets and talking to those who call City of Refuge their home, their place of work and their place of service, and you’ll start to see that miracles can and do happen here.

The CORE Academy
The CORE Academy (City of Refuge Education) is dedicated to academic enrichment managed by the City of Refuge and co-funded with the After-School All-Stars of America. CORE takes a holistic approach to the academic development of elementary and middle school children by including their physical and emotional education into the curriculum.
We believe that a complete approach — mind, body spirit — is the “core” of academic growth and acheivement. In addition to being holistic, CORE is collaborative, drawing support from student, teachers, school administrators, parents, mentors, coaches, clergy and community leaders.

There are not any job opportunities listed, but there are plenty of volunteer opportunities available.

  1. Keli,

Thank you for posting and discussing such amazing organizations. The Voices of Georgia's Children sounds like a wonderful program to get involved in. Continue changing the world, one child at a time.

  2. Hi Keli,
thanks for sharing information about these great organizations. I noticed that a lot of these places had volunteer opportunities and sometimes it is best to volunteer at certain organizations which can often turn into a job. Volunteering is a great way of giving back to the community.

  3. Keli,

I really enjoyed reading about each of the organizations. I remember 3 years ago I was foolish to think that a degree in Early Childhood Education would limit my career options. Within the past year I have learned that the possibilities to where we can go with our degree is endless! Good luck with your future endeavors.
